For a simple Hat all you’ll need is J hook and some yarn. I am using Vanna’s Choice Black in this example. You’ll also need a stitch marker or 2 for marking rounds as well as a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle to sew in ends. I will be making a hat for a head circumference of about 22″ inches. For Chart See HERE.

Ch2, 6sc in 2nd chain from hook, mark last stitch with a crochet marker(safety pin, yarn, etc)

1: 2sc in each stitch around, (Move marker) [12sc]

2: *1sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next st* (repeat this 5 more times around) Move marker [18sc]

3: *1sc in first 2stitches, 2sc in next stitch* (repeat this 5 more times around) Move Marker [24sc]

4: *1sc in first 3stitches, 2sc in next stitch*, repeat this 5 more times around, Move stitch marker [30sc]

11: *2sc in first st, 1sc in next 9stitches*Repeat 5 more times, Move marker, [66sc]

12: 1sc in each stitch around [66sc] Move marker -[Add a second marker at the end of this row but don’t move it. This is how you will keep track of your rows.]

13 - 26: Repeat row 12 until you get the height of your hat. This one goes just above my ears. [if you want it longer just continue to repeat row 12 until you get it to where you like it]

27: Sl St in each st around. End off. Using the Tapestry Needle, weave in and out to hide excess yarn tail.  [View Stitch Explanation HERE]

Please do share your progress with me. I’d love for you to comment and let me know how this pattern worked out for you.
